CHRIS MANN: A former pub in South Cambs has been saved from development as a house, after a planning inspector backed the Council’s decision to refuse it planning permission. The Pear Tree in Hildersham had been listed as an Asset of Community Value by villagers, but it doesn’t look like they’ll be getting their local back just yet. To find out more I’m joined by councillor Nick Wright from South Cambs, He’s the District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development. Hello Nick.

Robin Page on Development in South Cambridgeshire

[D]OTTY MCLEOD: Heads should roll at South Cambridgeshire District Council. That’s according to the Chairman of the Countryside Restoration Trust. Robin Page says the planned development of Bourn Airfield could endanger important wildlife, and that the Council hasn’t done enough to protect it. It’s possible new development is part of a bigger local plan to build nearly 20,000 new homes in the countryside around Cambridge over the next two years. Robin Page joins me now. New Homes Marshalls Cambridge East Consultation

[D]OTTY MCLEOD: Plans for more than 1,000 homes on the outskirts of Cambridge are now out for public consultation. The development would go north of Newmarket Road. It’s been submitted by Marshalls of Cambridge, and it includes 40% affordable housing, a primary school, a food store and sports pitches. Cllr Nick Wright is Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development at South Cambridgeshire District Council. Thanks for joining us this morning Nick. LGA Calls For Developers To Stop Hoarding Land And Get Building Houses

[C]HRIS MANN: Almost 400,000 homes in England have been given planning permission, but have yet to be built. The Local Government Association study found that little progress had been made in reducing the backlog over the past year. It comes after plans for another 1,600 homes were given the go-ahead in the Cambridge area just yesterday.
