So leading figures in Peterborough have joined forces with a local brewery to create a beer in Old Scarlett’s honour. Mark Lloyd on Cuts – The Andy Harper Interview

ANDY HARPER: Well yesterday we heard details of the cuts being made by Cambridgeshire County Council, along with the loss of 450 jobs. Cooking Oil to Biofuel – Fenland Bio Diesel Processors

ANDY HARPER: Yesterday we asked you whether you would change your driving habits to try and save fuel and money, given the current cost at the pumps. I made the point that I drive around 60mph now, on the motorway even, which I once upon a time didn’t do. And I don’t find that many people passing me, particularly in the mornings. So I would imagine that a lot of people are doing the same thing. And that was the response we got. But a lot of you said, well, one of the ways round it is to use cooking oil. I thought that was perhaps something which somebody with an old vehicle might do, or somebody who was just taking a chance, or somebody who was a bit mechanically minded. But we were so surprised by the number of you who said, yes, we do it. we know somebody who does it. We even had a colleague upstairs who said to us, my dad does it. Which I must say took us by surprise. So we thought we need to find out more. Who better to go and talk to an expert than Johnnie Dee? Eve Young PECT on Saving Energy

PAUL STAINTON: Now all this morning we’ve been doing our bit to save money. Because the Green Party think the World War Two generation could help us tackle climate change and save us a few quid as well. Later on they’re going to launch a nationwide search for the best ideas from the home front, to help us make us more energy efficient, and save cash, be less wasteful and all that. Thank you for all the suggestions for saving money this morning. Some of my favourite ones, “save wear and tear on busy city roads by closing them all to traffic.” It’s going to work, isn’t it? It’s going to work. And I particularly like “stay at home as much as you can, save petrol, and make the most of your TV licence.” Plus: “Stop the car five miles from home and push it the rest of the way.” That’s always going to be a petrol-saving option. But they want us to go back to the Second World War and think about cutting squares of toilet paper up instead of toilet roll, eating unpopular meat, or even plugging a hole in your shoe with some cardboard. PAUL STAINTON: Now there’s just 100 days to go until the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. But whilst the whole country gets wedding fever, it would appear that the wedding industry as a whole is struggling to survive. As the cost of marriage has risen over recent years, as you may well know the cost of divorce has gone up a lot more, the amount of people getting married has declined, making it difficult for bridal shops to stay open. But one shop in Cambridgeshire is still standing and bucking the trend, and it’s seen a rise in bookings this year. I wonder if the Royal wedding has anything to do with that. King James Bible Anniversary Exhibition

ANDY BURROWS: A five-month exhibition about the creation of the Kings James Bible will open at Cambridge University’s library tomorrow. Experts believe that the bible, published four hundred years ago this year, had an extraordinary effect on our language, and phrases that first appeared then are still in use now. Things like “refusing to give up the ghost” “the salt of the earth” and “a law unto ourself” are some of the phrases which we still use today. The exhibition traces the history of bible translation, and examines the reception the King James version was given. Well earlier I spoke to Peter Meadows. Stewart Jackson on the Peterborough Station Revamp

ANDY BURROWS: It’s emerged today that Peterborough Railway Station is to undergo a £2.5 million redevelopment. The scheme is being funded by the train operator East Coast, alongside Network Rail. The station has long been criticised for perhaps looking a little bit shabby, and giving a rather unwelcoming impression to anyone visiting the city for the first time.
