17:42 Tuesday 16th July 2013
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

[C]HRIS MANN: The question of funding for an A14 upgrade reared its rather ugly head again today at a full Cambridgeshire County Council meeting. Beforehand, Paul Bullen the Deputy Leader of UKIP on the County Council said  a referendum needed to be held before the Council agreed to any contribution of funding. But Council Leader Martis Curtis said it was vital that work on the road is not delayed. He joins me in the studio now. Hello Martin.
MARTIN CURTIS: Good afternoon Chris.
CHRIS MANN: And also the UKIP Leader Peter Reeve. Hello Peter.
PETER REEVE: Good afternoon .
CHRIS MANN: The end result Martin was the vote was …?
MARTIN CURTIS: It was overwhelmingly rejected.
CHRIS MANN: Ok. Peter Reeve. Why do you think it was a good idea? Continue reading “UKIP Call For A14 Referendum”

PAUL STAINTON: A crunch meeting is being held at Shire Hall in Cambridge today to decide who if anyone will be the big cheese, the big honcho, the head man, the head woman at Cambridgeshire County Council, although there are not too many women councillors it has to be said. Since the local elections at the start of the month, no party has had a majority of seats, so will the Tory group decide to run the Council as a minority, or will the Council be run by a series of all-party committees? .. Antony Carpen is a Cambridgeshire based political commentator .. Were you surprised Antony when Nick Clarke lost his seat and the Council went into no overall control? Were you surprised in Cambridgeshire? Continue reading “Upheaval At Cambs County Council”

[P]AUL STAINTON: The big news you’re waking up to is that UKIP have really started a march across the UK. Counting hasn’t started in the county council elections in Cambridgeshire yet, but there have been a number of overnight counts elsewhere, and some big big gains for UKIP. They’ve won more than 40 seats, they finished second in the Parliamentary by-election in South Shields which was retained by Labour, that seat. The Conservatives have lost control of Gloucestershire and Lincolnshire, but have retained control elsewhere in Hampshire Dorset Essex Somerset and Hertfordshire. And UKIP’s Deputy Leader Paul Nuttall is a very happy man this morning. (TAPE)
PAUL NUTTALL: Well it shows that we’re a party on an upward trajectory, that we’re going places. And it also shows that we’re not just a Southern based party, taking votes from the Conservatives. We’re taking votes in the North as well. And I think this is the fourth by-election where we’ve finished second, so this party really is going places. (LIVE)
PAUL STAINTON: That’s Paul Nuttall. Let’s speak to Peter Reeve. He’s the UKIP district and county councillor for Ramsey of course. Morning.
PETER REEVE: Good morning.
PAUL STAINTON: Well, what a night! Continue reading “The Peasants Revolt”

[P]AUL STAINTON: Last time we spoke to our next guest, he bemoaned the lack of English speaking migrants in Peterborough. He also said he thought people get on less well in the city than they did ten years ago. Well today, he’ll visit different parts of Peterborough, as part of his tour of England as we head towards local elections of course on May 2nd. Of course, referring to Nigel Farage, Leader of Ukip. We’ll speak to him in a moment, but first our reporter Johnny D in what’s often described as the Polish quarter of Peterborough. Good morning Johnny. Where are you? Ukip Launch County Council Campaign

17:46 Friday 5th April 2013
Drive BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

[C]HRIS MANN: Ukip has revealed the seats it will fight at the up and coming County Council elections on May 2nd. They are to contest all seats in both Fenland and Huntingdonshire, and it shows that their promised push is certainly going to take place here in the East of England. Let’s bring in a County Councillor and one of their organisers for the area, Peter Reeve. Hello Peter.
PETER REEVE: Good afternoon.
CHRIS MANN: So just tell us the news in terms of Cambridgeshire and what you’re going to fight.
PETER REEVE: Yes. Starting with the East of England we’re fighting 318 of the 380 seats, so most of the East of England itself will have a Ukip candidate. Here in Cambridgeshire we’re fighting 54 of the 69 seats that are up.
CHRIS MANN: Ok. Let’s not talk about the individual ..
PETER REEVE: So you can have a Ukip led Council if people want it.
CHRIS MANN: Ok. Don’t talk about individual seats, that’s all I’m going to ask you. Continue reading “Ukip Launch County Council Campaign”

Nigel Farage On Peterborough

[P]AUL STAINTON: The Leader of Ukip, Nigel Farage, told a packed public meeting last night in Suffolk that he was flabbergasted at the immigration problems in Peterborough. His comments came after the Prime Minister David Cameron visited the region to deliver his keynote speech on immigration, saying that Britain will no longer be a soft touch for benefit claimants. Well, our political correspondent from Look East Andrew Sinclair spoke to Mr Farage last night. (TAPE)
ANDREW SINCLAIR: Want to ask you about something else you said tonight. You said you were flabbergasted to go to Peterborough and see ghettos you called them where people don’t speak any English. Continue reading “Nigel Farage On Peterborough”

2015 A War Of Words

[P]AUL STAINTON: So, the LibDems are cock-a-hoop this morning after holding on to Eastleigh in Hampshire in the Parliamentary by-election, caused of course by that resignation of former Cabinet Member Chris Huhne. Mike Thornton retained the seat with a much reduced majority, whilst their Coalition partners the Tories were pushed into third place by the rise of Ukip, who recorded their best ever Westminster result, made in Ramsey of course, master minded by Lisa Duffy. Labour finished an incredibly distant fourth. Well the LibDem’s Leader Simon Hughes was a relieved man. (TAPE)
SIMON HUGHES: I’m very pleased as well as relieved of course. We worked well. We didn’t squeak in by 50 votes or 500 votes. It was a majority of nearly 2,000. Mike was an excellent candidate. He had a credibility locally to fight a good campaign. It was a consolation that, in government, this was the first time since we’ve been in the Government, we defended one of our seats. (LIVE)
PAUL STAINTON: Well, victory for the LibDems, but Ukip are claiming the moral victory, annd Ramsey councillor Peter Reeve hailed the result as a huge step forward for the Party. (TAPE)
PETER REEVE: Before, Ukip was very much seen as a party against the EU. But people are actually paying attention to what we’re saying. The media’s giving the coverage to what we’re saying. And I think when people look at us and actually get a chance to really appreciate what it is that Ukip are saying, they suddenly realise that, oh my goodness, there’s a party saying exactly what I think. (LIVE)
PAUL STAINTON: Well as I mentioned, Labour finished a very distant fourth, a result they say is “impressive” considering their previous results in that constituency. So is this just a protest vote, or is it a defining moment in UK politics? Have people had enough of the status quo, and are beginning, like they are in Italy, to look for alternatives? Let’s speak to Stewart Jackson, the Conservative MP for Peterborough. Are you worried this morning Stewart? Continue reading “2015 A War Of Words”

Paul Nuttall UKIP – Exit Now From A Corrupt And Undemocratic European Union

[A]NDY HARPER: Let’s talk to the Euro MEP Paul Nuttall, who is Deputy Leader of UKIP. Paul, good morning to you.
PAUL NUTTALL: Morning.
ANDY HARPER: So, I think most people are suggesting that Mr Cameron’s speech,  and not necessarily a U-turn, but a slight change in direction, is down to the pressure being put on by your party. Continue reading “Paul Nuttall UKIP – Exit Now From A Corrupt And Undemocratic European Union”
