Yaxley is deeply unhappy about the proposed development at Haddon. The development greenfield site is situated on the border between Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, and the worry is that new school provision will not be available to pupils resident over the border. In addition, Yaxley residents predict that traffic from the development will prove a nightmare for themselves and for Farcet residents.
Peterborough Cathedral says it has no time at all for the proposed march by the English Defence League, and the Church condemns the activity as divisive and counter-productive.
A WWF survey on British rivers says the Great Ouse scored well on many factors, but the River Nene is under pressure from pollution and water extraction.

A mass sleep-in by 135 plucky volunteers at Bretton Sainsburys on Friday successfully raised more than £32,000 for a new vehicle for the Peterborough Soup Kitchen.

The rising cost of care for the elderly: BBC examines an example of a traditional family setting where three generations live under the same roof, and families are neighbours.
A senior councillor is concerned that raising the cost of allotments for pensioners by a factor of three will cause many to abandon the activity. He reminds us that Council have often in the past sold off allotments for housing, and wonders how this fits in with Council’s bid to be Environment Capital.
Many will assemble in Sainsburys Car park at 10pm on Friday 12th November to sleep rough in aid of the Peterborough Soup Kitchen. Mayor Keith Sharp is leading the effort.

Peterborough News 25th October 2010

Following the loss of funding for the planned work on Stanground and Orton Longueville Schools, and a possible question mark over the funding on Ormiston Bushfield for which contracts have been signed, local representatives will meet Lord Hill, Parliamentary under-secretary of state for schools, to discuss the city’s requirements, and a possible way forward. Council may be required to put some money in. but Matthew Lee Deputy Leader says he is committed to delivering a decent school environment for pupils in the south of the city.
Hammerson have put in an application for a small extension to the Queensgate Shopping Centre. Opportunity Peterborough admit they have not delivered so well on their brief in the past, but promise to do better in the future to attract business to the city, and top-quality shops to Queensgate.
A representative cross section of local unions assembled in Laxton Square on Friday to express their concern at possible job loses arising from Government cuts.
