NHS Peterborough have succesfully moved their A&E Department from the District Hospital to the new site at Bretton but problems with the switchboard are still being addressed. They suggest callers use 0800 9178562 or visit www.peterboroughhospitals.co.uk to access a list of direct numbers.
Following the scrapping of the A14 widening programme a debate continues over whether a toll road is the answer or if rail can ease the problem.
Peterborough City Council intends to reduce its contribution towards speed cameras locally, but the Safety Partnership says fixed cameras will remain, although there may be no film in them. In addition an extra mobile camera will be used, and communications with targeted motorists prior to court will also be minimal.

Peterborough News 24th November 2010

In its annual report Ofsted has included Peterborough as one of ten councils failing to adequately safeguard children. A spokesman from Peterborough City Council says improvements have been made to the referral system which failed, but they must wait for their next inspection to receive an adequate rating.
A spokeman from Anglia Ruskin University Student Union says they have made no special arrangements to participate in today’s 11am national student protest against the rise in tuition fees.
TUC have agreed a route for their counter-march on December 11th against an English Defence League protest in the city.

Council admits no money has been spent on Peterborough Market for some years. Opinion is divided on whether the market should be revamped or moved.
Council is finally awake to the popular local zeitgeist that small retailers with an eclectic range of offerings should be offered the opportunity to take up a city centre location, possibly in a shared setting.
Peterborough FM, a not-for-profit community radio station and beneficiary of a £90,000 grant from Children in Need and other funding sources, begins transmitting again for 28 days from 20th November to the 17th of December 2010 on 87.7FM. They are affiliated to the Peterborough African Community Organisation. “Using radio as a tool, Peterborough FM contributes to regeneration and improved community cohesion and capacity in the city. Peterborough FM is sees as a community resource, to be used by individuals and organisations making up the city’s community. The project brings together people from diverse backgrounds who would not meet each other in the normal course of their lives. ”

Government is Taking the Region for Granted

As we await the Comprehensive Spending Review, Will Pope from EEDA points out that despite being an economic benefit to the Treasury, this region does not get a fair proportion of Government spending per head, and John Bridge from Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Chambers believes it is clearly unacceptable that vital work to upgrade the A14 trunk road is still in the balance.
