Radical Sports Cars Peterborough’s 1000th Production Sports Car.

Mick Hyde co-founder of Radical Sports Cars tells the BBC’s Suzie Roberts they are celebrating the construction of their 1000th car at their Westwood Peterborough factory. This interview was broadcast at 07:45 on Thursday 27th May in the Peterborough Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire hosted by Andy Gall.

ANDY: Now the Peterborough-based sports racing car manufacturer Radical is celebrating this week, as its one thousandth car rolled off the production line. Now Suzie Roberts is not exactly a petrol-head, but she is married to one. So we sent her down to the factory in Westwood to see what’s going on. (TAPE)

Will Pope Chairman of EEDA on Cuts

The BBC’s Wazeen Mirza talks to Keith Brown for the Federation of Small Businesses and the BBC’s Ian Barmer talks to Will Pope of the East of England Development Agency about the news that EEDA will share in the six billion pounds worth of cuts announced by Government today. BURROWS: Andy Burrows in for Antonia Brickell on Drivetime here on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. And we’ll stick with our top story about the Government’s decision to announce six billion pounds worth of cuts today. And EEDA, the East of England Development Agency has found out it will be facing cuts. The agency’s mission is to improve the economy in the East of England. BBC Look East’s Waseem Mirza met Keith Brown the Regional Organiser for the Federation of Small Businesses and asked him how successful development agencies actually are. (TAPE)
BROWN: We think it’s very important that the level of business support is maintained, so that businesses as we’re coming out of recession have the help that’s available to them. Whether that support is best delivered through Regional Development Agencies or through other agencies is something we’d like to discuss, so we actually come forward with positive ways of actually helping supporting businesses.
MIRZA: Obviously there’s been much talk about this. It couldn’t have come as a huge suprise, could it?
BROWN: No, certainly not. And it’s fair to say that EEDA is not the most popular Regional Development Agency with the business community. And what we’re keen to do, and indeed is one of the reasons I’m here today, is to see how we can improve the business support that they can deliver to businesses in the county. Matthew Bullock Norwich and Peterborough On Keydata

Matthew Bullock Chief Executive of the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society talks to the BBC’s Paul Stainton about how they plan to deal with investors’ losses in the Keydata collapse. STAINTON: This just in this morning as well. A pensioner who invested into a savings plan recommended by Norwich and Peterborough Building Society fears he will never ever see his money again. Robert Hiddereley invested over a hundred and thirty thousand pounds into a firm called Keydata who’ve now gone bust. Robert is one of thousands of people affected and he joins us now. Morning Robert.
INVESTOR: Good morning.
STAINTON: I do know of a few people who don’t want to be named who are also in a fairly similar boat to yours Robert. Just explain to us what the circumstances were and what you did.
INVESTOR: Well I had some money which I wanted to invest obviously. And this seemed a fairly good rate of interest certainly. And so I went to Norwich and Peter and spoke to one of their advisers, and I decided to do this. And it all seemed a very good straightforward solid sort of scheme.
STAINTON: So the Norwich and Peterborough where you had your money suggested you invest in this other company?
INVESTOR: Yes. This is where I wanted to put it, in this good rate of interest that was being offered.
STAINTON: And what were the first signs that perhaps it wasn’t as good as it looked?
INVESTOR: Well it was fine for about the first two years, two .. yes two years. Maybe more than that actually, two and a half years. And then the .. and mine was arranged so that I would get interest on my money paid every month. And about as I say two and a half years later it started to be a bit intermittent. Chairman NHS Peterborough on Spending Cuts

Marco Cereste Chairman of NHS Peterborough talks to the BBC’s Antonia Brickell about his plans to cut £20 million from the NHS Budget as part of an effort to save £33 million required to balance the budget. ANTONIA BRICKELL: Now this afternoon another meeting was held to discuss how NHS Peterborough will make thirty three million pounds in savings. The main concern of course is how to still provide efficient healthcare services. Well, Marco Cereste is the Chairman of NHS Peterborough’s Board, also Leader of the Council. He’s on the phone right now. Hi, Marco.
MARCO CERESTE: Hi. Good afternoon.
ANTONIA BRICKELL: How are you going to make these savings without affecting the standard of healthcare?
MARCO CERESTE: Well first of all we’re not going to make thirty three million pounds worth of savings in financial year two thousand ten eleven. We’re pitching to make twenty million pounds worth of savings, which is just still enormous. So, you know, it’s not that I’m trying to say it’s any less of a problem. What we’re trying to do of course is to make the delivery of healthcare in the city more efficient and more effective in order for everybody to be able to still get what they need when they need it, but do it in a different way.

STAINTON: Now on yesterday’s show we heard from Peterborough City Council Leader Marco Cereste, many times, as he announced his Cabinet for the next term in office. We’ve already heard from the Cabinet Member for the Environment this morning, Samantha Dalton. There was also a new role for former Mayor Irene Walsh as Marco explained.
CERESTE: (TAPE) We’ve had two new Cabinet Members. One is Councillor Samantha Dalton who will look after the Environment and the Environment Capital portfolio and the other is Councillor Irene Walsh and she will look after Women’s Enterprise, Community Cohesion, HR, Health and Safety and so on.
STAINTON: (STUDIO) The other big change of course is that Marco Cereste will now look after the portfolio for Growth and Strategic Development for the city. Councillor Darren Fower is the Leader of Peterborough’s Liberal Democrats and joins us now. Good morning Darren.
FOWER: Good morning Paul.
STAINTON: You must be disappointed in this new era of collegiate politics, of coalition politics, that not one Liberal Democrat was invited in to this Peterborough Cabinet.
FOWER: Well it was disappointing, and again this year we stood up, and we made the point that as one of the smallest local authorities in the country we thought it made absolutely no sense whatsoever, and didn’t consider it fair to the local taxpayer, that we had the maximum number of Cabinet posts, which in essence means a handful of Conservative councillors get a significant amount of dosh on top of their basic salary.
