ANDY BURROWS: Plans for a massive housing development in Cambridgeshire are back on the agenda. The Northstowe development was first put forward over ten years ago. But the plans have been heavily criticised, because of the amount of traffic they would bring to the already congested A14. PAUL STAINTON: At the end of last month the LibDems on Peterborough City Council came up with this idea to sell Peterborough Town Hall. And you all scoffed. I scoffed. I even scoffed in the column in the ET about it. In fact we poked fun at the LibDems. But, the City Council is actually considering the LibDem suggestion. It will consider a report which shows at least £2 million could be saved by moving Council services elsewhere, and putting them under one roof, while selling off the Town Hall. ANDY HARPER: We’re looking at the implications for the county following the demise of Cambridgeshire Horizons. The organisation that has overseen development in the county for the last seven years is being wound up today. It promoted plans for Northstowe, but it also led widespread opposition to Hanley Grange. That was the eco-town proposed by Tesco on countryside south of Cambridge. But we’ve learnt that it’s back on the table, along with Six Mile Bottom, Waterbeach and others, as a possible site for future house building. Well Peter Topping is Conservative District Councillor for Triplow, who had just been elected when the Hanley Grange proposals were put forward for the first time. Peter, good morning to you.

ANDY BURROWS: One big event that’s not going to happen is the annual Fireworks Fiesta in Peterborough. It was announced a couple of weeks ago that the Nene Park Trust which manages Ferry Meadows where the event traditionally takes place was no longer going to play host to the display, because of traffic problems connected with dealing with the expected 15,000 visitors. It had been hoped an alternative venue could be found, but today it was announced the event had been called off altogether. The Mayor of Peterborough, Paula Thacker, spoke to Paul Stainton on our Peterborough Breakfast Show this morning. (TAPE)
PAULA THACKER: I’m very very disappointed, deeply upset, shocked, angry with James McCullogh and his Trustees, and I suggest that people do look at his Trustees, because unfortunately, I’m going to say this, a lot of people won’t know that we have two councillors on that Trustee board, which I’m really really disappointed as well. PAUL STAINTON: Plans to build one of the country’s largest greenhouses in Peterborough creating 1500 jobs – the proposals come from Peterborough Renewable Energy Limited. Chris Williams is the Managing Director. (TAPE)
CHRIS WILLIAMS: First of all there’s a pilot, and what we’re looking to do is we’ve been approached by the growers, who themselves have been approached by supermarkets and customers, who want sustainable organic food. To help that they need carbon dioxide, and what better way to do carbon dioxide than to take it from a source that would be putting it into the atmosphere. So they’re looking at power stations. They also like the idea that we produce organic fertiliser from our food waste process. And combining the two. So we’re starting with a pilot in Peterborough, about 3 hectares of tomatoes and other crops that can grow sustainably and have the market in the UK, so they’re cutting out food miles, they’re cutting out use of heating from external sources.
