Peterborough Breakfast Show
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

PAUL STAINTON: A bit of a spat has broken out. Not-for-profit organisation Growborough is being criticised for treading on the toes of another organisation, by launching an advertising campaign to attract new businesses to Peterborough. Publicly funded economic development company Opportunity Peterborough, you may have heard them on the show yesterday, launched a similar strategy in London just a few months ago. We talked about it having the name tag on taxis and billboards and everything else. Well Rowen Squibb is from Growborough. Morning Rowen.
ROWEN SQUIBB: Morning Paul.
PAUL STAINTON: What is going on here? We have Opportunity Peterborough, who up until probably I would say a year ago we were some of their fiercest critics. They didn’t really do the job properly, according to lots and lots of people. Nothing really got delivered. But they appear to be doing the job now. They appear to be doing what they said on the tin. Paul Stainton talks to Matthew Taylor, the Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Arts.

PAUL STAINTON: The big question this morning is, is the Big Society finished? Is David Cameron’s big idea turning into a big flop? This morning the head of one of Britain’s leading charities has warned the Prime Minister his project is being undermined by him and his spending cuts. In Peterborough, the Council has spent over £300,000 on Big Society projects over the last year. The Neighbourhood Councils, and Citizen Power Peterborough, tasked with getting residents more involved in shaping the city’s future. 10:10 Thursday 27th January 2011
Andy Harper Show BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

ANDY HARPER: Yesterday, if you remember, we heard from Jan, who’s life took a completely new path after she took voluntary redundancy, starting a successful new career as a mature model. With hundreds of jobs set to go from local councils alone, we wanted to hear the stories of people who have already got through being made redundant. Can it sometimes be a blessing in disguise, as it was in Jan’s case? Well John Cafferkey from Cambridge contacted us, and I’m delighted to say he joins me in the studio. John, good morning to you.
JOHN CAFFERKEY: Hi, Andy.
ANDY HARPER: So tell us your situation. What was your work situation prior to redundancy? Continue reading “Business Link for Beginners- A Client’s Story”

Peterborough Council “Creme” Award

As they await the outcome of an internal report into the amount of money they spend on consultants, Peterborough City Council will welcome the news that they have won a “Creme de la Creme” Award for their procurement practices, from global communications services company WPP.

WPP are unimaginably large, the world’s biggest advertising company in revenue terms, with widespread interests in advertising, public relations, and market research.

As winners, Council will send a party down to the Ritz for a sumptuous lunch, a certificate and some media advice, in addition to the certain promise of innumerable press releases, and the distinct possibility of an ongoing executive lunch arrangement, depending on the affability of the team they send down on the day.

Truly Posh.

Cambridge Wedding Dress Design

08:21 Wednesday 19th January 2011
Peterborough Breakfast Show BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

PAUL STAINTON: Now there’s just 100 days to go until the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. But whilst the whole country gets wedding fever, it would appear that the wedding industry as a whole is struggling to survive. As the cost of marriage has risen over recent years, as you may well know the cost of divorce has gone up a lot more, the amount of people getting married has declined, making it difficult for bridal shops to stay open. But one shop in Cambridgeshire is still standing and bucking the trend, and it’s seen a rise in bookings this year. I wonder if the Royal wedding has anything to do with that. We’ve sent our reporter Johnnie Dee with something borrowed, something blue and himself to investigate. Continue reading “Cambridge Wedding Dress Design”
