CHRIS MANN: Peterborough United go in search of their fifth win in seven matches when they travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. .. After yesterday’s press conference, our Sports Editor Nick Fairbairn started by asking Darren Ferguson about the injuries to Michael Bostwick and George Boyd. (TAPE)
DARREN FERGUSON: Well Boyd and Bostwick are fit. They’ll train this afternoon. Tommy Rowe’s a fifty-fifty.
NICK FAIRBAIRN: Did Mark Little pick up a bit of a knock at the weekend as well? Had a bit of treatment? Continue reading “Posh Solid For Six Point Clash”

Back For More At London Road

CHRIS MANN: Darren Ferguson has confirmed that Posh have held talks with a young striker about joining the Club in the summer. However Fergie insists the player is yet to put pen to paper with the Club. Posh beat Huddersfield on Tuesday, before jumping another place in the League, thanks to Blackburn’s win over Sheffield Wednesday last night. So ahead of the weekend clash with Derby, Fergie is in confident mood. (TAPE)
DARREN FERGUSON: The win on Tuesday lifted us above Ipswich, and then Blackburn beating Sheffield Wednesday, on goal difference we go above them. So it looks better than being at the bottom. There’s no doubt about that. But if we can back it up on Saturday and get another victory, then we could possibly be out of the bottom three.
NICK FAIRBAIRN: Is it pychologically important as well, jumping a couple of places? Continue reading “Back For More At London Road”

Posh Need Points At London Road

CHRIS MANN: Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson says he may make one or two changes to his team for the match against Huddersfield. The Posh lost 0-1 at Watford on Saturday, but have an immediate chance to bounce back when the Terriers come to London Road tomorrow evening. One change that may be forced upon Fergie is replacing Tommy Rowe, who was subbed off at half-time against Watford with an ankle injury. (TAPE)
DARREN FERGUSON: Well he’s been in early this morning. It’s fifty fifty. He won’t train today. It will be a last minute thing, but we’ll know more tomorrow.
SAM EDWARDS: That’s quite a trick, isn’t it? Because he’s such a lynch-pin of that new formation, being at wing-back. Does that play on your mind with a change of shape then? Continue reading “Posh Need Points At London Road”

Peterborough Riverside Opportunity Area

NICK FAIRBAIRN: A massive redevelopment in Peterborough has come a step closer. The City Council says it’s ready to find a business partner to redevelop the city’s South Bank. Good news, although given that the final bill could be around £1 billion, you’d think they could have come up with a snappier name than the Riverside Opportunity Area. Well earlier I spoke to Andrew Edwards, who’s Head of Growth and Regeneration at Peterborough City Council, and I started by asking him what the redeveloped area could look like. PAUL STAINTON: Now, let’s talk farming, because there’s a row going on in Newborough in Peterborough. Peterborough City Council last night met with farmers affected by the Council’s plans to build a renewable energy plant. The Council is looking at three sites for solar and windfarms at Newborough Farm, America Farm and Morris Farm, which would involve shifting out tenant farmers. Farmers used the Newborough Parish Council meeting last night to voice their concerns, and ask for answers to their questions. Let’s speak to Nick Harris. He’s a farmer in Borough Fen, and chaired the meeting last night. Did you get any answers? Continue reading “Rash Promises and Public Money”

Council Funds Feasibility Study For Peterborough Renewable Energy Park

PAUL STAINTON: You’re wasting one of the most fertile pieces of land in the country. That’s what the National Farmers’ Union is condemning Peterborough City Council for. The authority is planning to use 3,000 acres of farmland for a renewable energy park, including wind farms and solar panels. The proposal would see the Council become an energy provider for the City and, it says, lead to lower council tax for all. But Peter Brewer (Group Secretary from the National Farmers’ Union) says no agricultural land should be taken out of production. (TAPE)
PETER BREWER: The land is very very productive. It’s grade one, grade two agricultural land, which is the best quality land you can get. It will produce significantly more crops per acre if you like, than other less productive land. I sympathise with Peterborough City Council in that they have a huge budget deficit. I’m not sure whether they have genuinely explored all options, and all the alternatives around, and if this is the most viable way of filling that deficit. (LIVE)..
PAUL STAINTON: Well let’s speak to Marco Cereste, Leader of Peterborough City Council. We’ve spoke about this before, and in principle I think a lot of people thought it was a great idea. But putting them on some of the most fantastic arable land in the country, is that a good idea? Continue reading “Council Funds Feasibility Study For Peterborough Renewable Energy Park”

The Answer Lies In The Soil

PAUL STAINTON: Farmers in the county say bread may have to be imported if we have another bad summer like we’ve just had. The price of fruit veg and cereal also set to rise, after figures from the NFU show the amount of wheat harvested has dropped by almost 15% over five years. The news comes after one of the wettest summers in recent years, and what’s been described as one of the worst harvests in forty years. .. Let’s speak to Ian Tennant from Peterborough Environment City Trust. With him as well is Kim Coley. Ian, you don’t eat a lot of meat and stuff, do you? Continue reading “The Answer Lies In The Soil”

Fry Bombshell Leaves Posh In Turmoil

CHRIS MANN: A serious issue for the Posh, and that’s tonight Barry Fry says Darren Ferguson held talks with representatives of potential owners of Nottingham Forest over the summer. Fry says Ferguson held meetings about taking over at the City ground. “I found Darren had two meetings, and hadn’t told my Chairman.” he’s told BBC Radio Nottingham. Fry described discussions, which occurred after Ferguson comfortably kept Posh in the Championship last season, as unsettling for Posh, and argued the Club missed out on signings as a result. So, first of all, Adi, what do you make of that? Continue reading “Fry Bombshell Leaves Posh In Turmoil”
