Director of Communications

Peterborough Council and NHS Peterborough have decided to appoint a Director of Communications, and are offering to pay up to £90,000 pa. Conservative councillor Mike Fletcher agrees with many of the callers into the programme that this is an entirely inappropriate use of the ratepayers’ money, and that Cabinet spending is harming the city. Council have recovered part of the cash they lost speculating in Iceland, but opinions differ on whether the losses were avoidable. Some councillors believe that an apology to the residents is overdue.
Despite the loss of £80 million school improvement funding with the closing of the Building Schools for the Future programme some work is proceeding. Hampton Hargate will expand with new classrooms, and Deeping School gets a new conference and community facility.
Following the success of the JLS concert at the weekend all parties hope that the Embankment will continue to provide large open air concerts.
