A conflict of interest row is brewing after it was announced that Marco Cereste Leader of Peterborough City Council has taken up the Chairmanship of Larkpoint, which is involved in construction in the city. A question has also been raised over Mr Cereste’s level of commitment to his Council role, given the number of outside interests he pursues.
Osborne, who are engaged in the refurbishment of Cathedral Square and a year behind schedule, have responded to claims that some of their work is also unsatisfactory.
Guild House in Oundle Road, a 50,000 sq ft. building with a glass facade on a four acre site, is in the process of being refurbished and renovated, and will provide a training centre for 500 Anglia Ruskin student nurses when it opens in March.

When will Cathedral Square be Finished?

Cathedral Square and St John’s Square Peterborough are in the process of being renovated, and some of the work has over-run by more than a year, and is still not complete. A caller with a lifetime’s experience in the building trade says from what he has seen the contractors Osborne may need to crack on, if they are to get the work done within the revised timescale discussed by Andrew Edwards, namely the second week in January. And he thinks that some completed work may need to be redone.

The saga of the Cathedral Square renovations: the project is now a year behind schedule. A Council spokesman predicts that the site will be usable by the second week in January, but a Yaxley caller with a lifetime’s experience in the construction industry reports that large parts of the paving present trip hazards and water drainage issues, and will need to be dug up and re-laid, which could take many months.
A new plan has been agreed for the Thurston House site in Lincoln Road. Accent Nene wanted to demolish the historic property, but following a public campaign the new plan will include less houses, and a four flat conversion for the house itself, retaining the facade and a view of the property from Lincoln Road.
A Cowgate hairdresser is concerned that his trade will suffer when the city hosts a political demonstration on a Saturday in December. Council say they have plans to mitigate this, and to make that following Sunday a more attractive day for visitors to shop.

Peterborough News 24th November 2010

In its annual report Ofsted has included Peterborough as one of ten councils failing to adequately safeguard children. A spokesman from Peterborough City Council says improvements have been made to the referral system which failed, but they must wait for their next inspection to receive an adequate rating.
A spokeman from Anglia Ruskin University Student Union says they have made no special arrangements to participate in today’s 11am national student protest against the rise in tuition fees.
TUC have agreed a route for their counter-march on December 11th against an English Defence League protest in the city.

The proposed trimming of migrant numbers from non-EU countries is currently being being sold as an immigration cap to appease disgruntled voters: various locals offer their considered opinions such as British workers don’t have the right attitude, and it’s too hard to import family members for Asian weddings.
A non-story about cyclists in Cowgate turns into a rant against cyclists, motorists and traffic in general. A well-meaning spokesman for Peterborough City Council says of course they care, but what can you do except encourage road users to be nice to each other. When will that be, say the bells of Stepney?
