PAUL STAINTON: A charity is taking over the running of Newmarket’s household waste recycling centre. It was earmarked for closure by Suffolk County Council to save some cash, partly because they thought it was mainly used by people like us, from Cambridgeshire. But the move was extremely unpopular, and a campaign was started to keep it open. Yesterday, local charity Newmarket Open Door sealed a deal with the Council to take it over. John Durrant from the charity joins me now. Morning John.

PAUL STAINTON: Peterborough apparently needs more warehouses. It’s the view of a leading city businessman, who says he’s having enquiries from as far away as Felixstowe for warehouse space right here in Peterborough. Last month we revealed that Eddie Stobart, of coursem will be the first business to open a distribution centre in Great Haddon, this big development just to the South of Hampton. But the city’s MP Stewart Jackson said he wanted more  high-skilled jobs coming to Peterborough, and fewer warehouses. Richard Jones is the man who wants more warehouses, says we could do with a lot more warehouses, from Barker Storey Matthews. Morning Richard.

Council Million Pound Mortgage Scheme Called In

PAUL STAINTON: Peterborough City Council’s decision to join the Local Authority Mortgage Scheme, investing a million pounds, has been called in for discussion by two of the city’s councillors. The scheme means they could help with up to 20% of the deposit, and help people get a 75% mortgage on top of that. All seemed very peachy. Labour councillor Mohammed Jamil though, not happy. Morning.

The Oundle Bridge Closure – Peace and Quiet Descends

PAUL STAINTON: No end in sight for businesses in Oundle that are losing trade because of this closed bridge. South Bridge is one of the main routes into Oundle. It’s been closed since March because of damage to its structure. It’s the bridge that takes you over to Barnwell Country Mill and all that, and Barnwell Garden Centre. The County Council hasn’t even given a ballpark date for when the bridge is going to be fixed. BBC Radio Cambridgeshire’s Dottie McLeod was there yesterday, in the beautiful tranquil surroundings of Oundle. (TAPE)
DOTTIE MCLEOD: No cars, no lorries, just a smattering of birdsong and the occasional splash from the river below. Not what you’d expect when you’re standing in the middle of one of the main roads into Oundle. Need to Know on this Story is that Marco Cereste is the Leader of Peterborough City Council which decided to buy the Peterborough United stadium, and also the Chairman of the company that sponsors the POSH shirts. So you might say he treads a fine line when it comes to handing out Council favours.

ANDY BURROWS: Can we talk about the ground? Because the Moyes End is due to be redeveloped this season, isn’t it? Will that be out of action for the entire season?
DARRAGH MCANTHONY: So far as I’m hearing yes. They start doing it I think in October, so we are going to lose most of the season. I can’t have a go at the Council because at the end of the day they’re going to build us a fit-for-purpose new stand. Onbiously we’re concerned, because we’re going to lose probably well over a million pounds with that stand being out of action. So we are negotiating at the moment. I’ve asked them for a .. obviously to pay no rent, and a contribution towards our season. So we’ll see where that gets us. We’re still negotiating, even though the season’s going to start in eight weeks time.

PAUL STAINTON: Ten weeks after an avalanche of criticism halted Andrew Lansley’s plans to reform the NHS, the Government has agreed to water down its Health and Social Care Bill. Well, what does it mean for me and you in layman’s terms? Doctors and nurses will join groups of GPs in controlling budgets. The Bill will be discussed at a commissioning conference being held in London today. The Health Regulator will no longer promote competition. Instead it will focus on the interests of patients. And the pace of change slows down. But where does it leave South Cambridgeshire MP Andrew Lansley? And are we any closer to really knowing what the heck’s going on?
