Because it was all connected with the fact that the Energy Secretary Chris Huhne was in the news after telling the House of Commons he was hopeful energy bills would eventually come down, once people had taken advantage of all energy efficient measures available. Johnny Dee then went to Greenhart Grove Huntingdon, where the 29 flats and houses completed last year have been fitted with some of the most advanced environmental technology on the market. PAUL STAINTON: No council employee is worth £1000 a day. That’s according to the Deputy Leader of the Independent councillors on Peterborough City Council. John Fox’s comments came after plans were unveiled to pay the new Interim Director of Peterborough’s Children’s Services over £1000 a day. He’s been billed as the new “super consultant”, and will be in charge of sorting out the Council’s failing Children’s Services, which was labelled so bad by an Ofsted report that the Director of the Department John Richards was forced to resign. It got better as I got towards Cambridge, but it was pretty horrible, that’s for sure. Now I’m rather intrigued about fog. CHRIS MANN: David Cameron insists Britain and Germany are still good friends, despite their differences over the crisis in the Eurozone. The Prime Minister’s been meeting Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, where the two leaders failed to agree on the best way of funding the bail-out of debt-plagued European countries. Germany also wants to impose a tax on share and currency trading across the European Union, but this is opposed by Britain. So, summit or showdown? ANDY BURROWS: Let’s talk about the A14 first of all today, because I know that many of you listening to this programme will be on the A14 this afternoon, or this evening as it is. Big problems on the road today, after part of it collapsed. It took place on the inside lane of the eastbound carriageway between junctions 30 and 31. It’s the Girton Interchange. Peterborough Children’s Services – A Long Way to Go
Peterborough city councillors met last night to discuss a thirty three point action plan designed to rescue their ailing Children’s Services department. Cambs Solar Plan Scuppered

ANDY BURROWS: Plans to make a Council headquarters in Cambridgeshire far greener by using solar panels has had to be scrapped. South Cambridgeshire District Council had already cancelled plans to add panels to sheltered accommodation, but were still hoping to press ahead with another scheme. The Government is again being urged to consider plans to upgrade the A14. According to reports today, the prospect of tolling the route is back on the negotiating table.

The business lobby group the CBI says the A14 desperately needs to be widened, to cope with the amount of traffic that uses the route.
