PAUL STAINTON: Both city councils in the county need to up their game when it comes to green issues. That’s what we’ve been hearing this morning on the show. The comments come ahead of a meeting tonight, where a new five year green strategy for Cambridge will be approved. The main target is to cut carbon emissions, something the city council’s failed to do in the past, much to the annoyance of local environmental campaigner Tony Juniper. CHRIS MANN: A serious issue for the Posh, and that’s tonight Barry Fry says Darren Ferguson held talks with representatives of potential owners of Nottingham Forest over the summer. Fry says Ferguson held meetings about taking over at the City ground. “I found Darren had two meetings, and hadn’t told my Chairman.” he’s told BBC Radio Nottingham. Fry described discussions, which occurred after Ferguson comfortably kept Posh in the Championship last season, as unsettling for Posh, and argued the Club missed out on signings as a result. So, first of all, Adi, what do you make of that? Continue reading “Fry Bombshell Leaves Posh In Turmoil”

CHRIS MANN: A thousand extra jobs are coming to Peterborough over the busy Christmas period. Online retailer Amazon has announced over one thousand seasonal employees are being recruited at the Peterborough Fulfillment Centre. Iain Crighton is Chairman of Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, and joins me now. Very welcome, isn’t it?
IAIN CRIGHTON: Yes, it’s the sort of stuff which puts a smile on your face. And I’m sure there’ll be a thousand people hopefully who’ll be smiling at the end as they go into Christmas. It must be nice to have a little bit of pocket money coming in. Christmas will seem that little bit better, won’t it? Continue reading “Iain Crighton On The Amazon Christmas Hiring”

PAUL STAINTON: Cambridgeshire is the fastest growing county in the country. The city of Cambridge has grown by almost 14% over the past ten years, Peterborough by almost 20%. It’s been predicted that Cambridge will grow by more than a quarter between now and 2031. The entire county will grow by 20% in that time. Peterborough has doubled in size since the 1960s. But where are all these people going to live? All these people that come here, where are they living now? Ed Balls says the key is to build more affordable homes. But can people actually buy them? Can they afford affordable homes? .. Dotty Mcleod is with us this morning. Continue reading “Cambridge Key Workers and the Housing Racket”

PDH Site Still Derelict As Talks Continue and Costs Mount

PAUL STAINTON: You’d like a bit of building to be done, wouldn’t you, on the PDH site in Peterborough that’s been derelict for who knows how long?
STEWART JACKSON: Well it’s been empty, that site, since December 2010. And given that the Trust, the Hospital Trust, has got an indicative deficit if they don’t make some pretty big changes, of £54 million, one would have thought that in the last twenty two months they would have got round to actually disposing of the site and start the process of building good quality homes there. The Conservative Leader of Peterborough City Council made this statement during an interview concerning the city’s Blue Sky plans to aggregate its electricity buying operations with other local authorities.

MARCO CERESTE: There’s going to be some really difficult times coming in the near future, so anything that we as a council can do to reduce local people’s costs are something we absolutely have to look at.
