CHRIS MANN: A thousand extra jobs are coming to Peterborough over the busy Christmas period. Online retailer Amazon has announced over one thousand seasonal employees are being recruited at the Peterborough Fulfillment Centre. Iain Crighton is Chairman of Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, and joins me now. Very welcome, isn’t it?

PAUL STAINTON: Cambridgeshire is the fastest growing county in the country. The city of Cambridge has grown by almost 14% over the past ten years, Peterborough by almost 20%. It’s been predicted that Cambridge will grow by more than a quarter between now and 2031. The entire county will grow by 20% in that time. Peterborough has doubled in size since the 1960s. But where are all these people going to live? All these people that come here, where are they living now? Ed Balls says the key is to build more affordable homes. But can people actually buy them? PDH Site Still Derelict As Talks Continue and Costs Mount

PAUL STAINTON: You’d like a bit of building to be done, wouldn’t you, on the PDH site in Peterborough that’s been derelict for who knows how long?
STEWART JACKSON: Well it’s been empty, that site, since December 2010. And given that the Trust, the Hospital Trust, has got an indicative deficit if they don’t make some pretty big changes, of £54 million, one would have thought that in the last twenty two months they would have got round to actually disposing of the site and start the process of building good quality homes there.
