Yaxley Up in Arms About Great Haddon

Peterborough City Council plans another large housing development at Great Haddon. The village of Yaxley, just across the border in Cambridgeshire, believes that this will considerable worsen the quality of life for existing residents, and they see nothing coming forward to contradict the belief that Peterborough, with its apparent obsession with expansion, is a bad neighbour to have.

Opposing Views on the Cost of Translation Services.

Peterborough City Council is compiling its very first translation policy, after a number of local councillors complained that too much money was being spent on these services in Peterborough. It comes after the City Council spent a hundred and fifty four thousand pounds on translators and interpreters last year, even though other services are being cut.

Yaxley is deeply unhappy about the proposed development at Haddon. The development greenfield site is situated on the border between Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, and the worry is that new school provision will not be available to pupils resident over the border. In addition, Yaxley residents predict that traffic from the development will prove a nightmare for themselves and for Farcet residents.
Peterborough Cathedral says it has no time at all for the proposed march by the English Defence League, and the Church condemns the activity as divisive and counter-productive.
A WWF survey on British rivers says the Great Ouse scored well on many factors, but the River Nene is under pressure from pollution and water extraction.

Marco Cereste for the Council and Kevin Roddis for the English Democrats put two different viewpoints on how translation services in Peterborough should be funded.
Peterborough’s Christmas Lights will be lit on Saturday 20th November with various artists in attendance, including Warwick David and Andy Scott-Lee from pop band 3SL.
