Alma Road Surgery Closure Opposed

Yesterday we heard that a Peterborough woman sent away from the Walk-In centre with a diagnosis of allergic reaction, died the following day from a flesh-eating bug. In the light of recent perceived failings at the NHS Walk-In Centre, which is effectively a triage service, a cross-party consensus of councillors repeat their objection to the closure of the Alma Road out-of-hours doctors’ surgery.

Despite the widespread problems being experienced by Peterborough as a result of the large influx of migrant workers into the city, many of whom have become unemployed and homeless, Government has cut funding designed to address the issue. A Peterborough woman sent away from the Walk In Centre with a diagnosis of allergic reaction died the following day from a flesh-eating bug.
The final scrapping of the migrant impact fund will cost Peterborough £168,000 this year and twice that amount overall. Peterborough continues to target rough sleeping by migrants with the appointment of two extra staff to that task but English teaching places will be cut back.
St Anthony Catholic Church in Fletton has suddenly been declared unsafe to the disappointment of the Italian congregation who may have to travel up to Geneva Street where All Souls have offered an Italian Mass.

Another New Chief Executive at NHS Peterborough

Henceforth NHS Peterborough will be sharing a Chief Executive with NHS Cambridgeshire until such time as PCTs are phased out altogether. He will take on the massive budget deficit and replaces the interim Chief Executive put in place following the departure of Marco Cereste. The brand new man Dr Paul Zollinger-Read who starts this week talks to the BBC’s Paul Stainton and learns from the BBC that the Dental Clinic in Midgate is to close without warning.
