Broadcast at 08:25 on Friday 19th March 2010 in Paul Stainton’s BBC Peterborough Breakfast Show.

PS: Now as we mentioned earlier, POSH travel to Nottingham Forest tomorrow hoping for another victory. Hopefully keep those slim safety dreams alive. Some fans though, set off yesterday morning, a group of them walking as we mentioned yesterday, to raise money for the Free Kicks charity. They set off from London Road around eleven, we had an update, I got a text about five o’clock saying they were in Empingham, and I believe they stayed overnight at Barnsdale Lodge. Steve Thorpe is from Free Kicks. Good morning Steve.
ST: Morning Paul.
PS: You’ve lost the POSH mascot though, haven’t you? The rabbit’s gone somewhere.
ST: Yes, he bowed out around Burghley House. He had feet full of blisters, so he had to retire. He got myxomatosis I think.

This interview with Daniel Broccoli from Britaly Travel London Road Peterborough followed the news that a BA cabin crew strike could lead to travel disruption. It was broadcast at 07:35 on Friday 19th March 2010 in Paul Stainton’s BBC Peterborough Breakfast Show.

PS: British Airways managers and unions have been talking. They will resume those talks today to try to avert this three day strike by the airline’s cabin crew. The two sides spent all day yesterday in discussions, but again they ended in deadlock. BA says it will be able to fly around 65% of passengers despite the walkout. The airline claims up to a thousand staff have offered to stand in for the strikers. But the UNITE union accuses the management of bluffing. But what does it mean for you, I, or anyone else who’s lucky enough to be going away this weekend? Daniel Broccoli is from Britaly Travel based on London Road in Peterborough. Good morning Daniel.
DB: Good morning.
PS: What does it mean if the strike goes ahead? Because a lot of people are going to be very upset, not only this weekend, but the forthcoming strike as well, leading up to Easter.

This interview with Conservative MP Stewart Jackson followed the news that the Land Registry office in Peterborough has been saved from closure. It was broadcast at 07:15 on Thursday 18th March 2010 in Paul Stainton’s BBC Peterborough Breakfast Show.

PS: Three hundred city jobs have been saved. That’s the big news this morning. The Land Registry announced yesterday they’d scrapped plans to close the Peterborough office. Six months ago staff were told the office was likely to close. Alex Bone, who works at the office told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire about the moment they found out they were keeping their jobs.
AB TAPE: It was really surreal in that you’ve got three hundred people gathered there, and just the noise, the noise going on, the noise. And then our area manager came in and then there was just this deathly silence. He didn’t initially say straight away, he opened he ran through a number of things, some other things, and just thinking, just tell us please. And then he did say, right, the following offices are going to keep open. And then he announced Croydon, and you’re thinking right, OK, and then he said Peterborough, but it was a bit, a little bit drawn out, well it seemed to be, and there were a lot of happy faces obviously. Some people were actually crying with relief.
PS: Very relieved. Very happy people in Peterborough this morning. Conservative MP for Peterborough Stewart Jackson is with us. Morning Stewart.
SJ: Good morning Paul.
PS: A concerted campaign by the unions, and by your goodselves, seems to have paid dividends, yes.

This interview with Trevor Gibson from Opportunity Peterborough talks about their pilot project to map local environmental data to Google Earth as part of the IBM Smarter Cities project . Broadcast at 08:35 on Wednesday 17th March 2010 in Paul Stainton’s BBC Peterborough Breakfast Show.

PS: A new project which will monitor the carbon footprint of residents and businesses like you, me, him and her across the city has been launched. Opportunity Peterborough has teamed up with IBM to produce a website which will show energy and water usage along with recycling rates for wards across the city. It looks pretty impresive actually. There’s a picture in a local magazine this morning. It’s a first for the UK, and the dream is that it will turn Peterborough into the country’s leading sustainable city. Trevor Gibson is from Opportunity Peterborough. Good morning Trevor.
TG: Good morning.
PS: I like the look of this. It looks pretty good. It’s very pretty indeed. Does it cost us anything, first of all.
TG: Well it’s initially a partnership between Peterborough City Council and Opportunity Peterborough, paid for, a relatively small pilot actually, and IBM and Green Ventures, and Royal Haskoning have come on board and formed a sort of an association of consultancies, if you like, to work on something that we think will be really dramatic for the city, and is already being taken an interest in by many organisations outside of the UK.
PS: Yes. Can you explain what it is exactly, in layman’s terms?
