Back For More At London Road

CHRIS MANN: Darren Ferguson has confirmed that Posh have held talks with a young striker about joining the Club in the summer. However Fergie insists the player is yet to put pen to paper with the Club. Posh beat Huddersfield on Tuesday, before jumping another place in the League, thanks to Blackburn’s win over Sheffield Wednesday last night. So ahead of the weekend clash with Derby, Fergie is in confident mood. (TAPE)
DARREN FERGUSON: The win on Tuesday lifted us above Ipswich, and then Blackburn beating Sheffield Wednesday, on goal difference we go above them. So it looks better than being at the bottom. There’s no doubt about that. But if we can back it up on Saturday and get another victory, then we could possibly be out of the bottom three.
NICK FAIRBAIRN: Is it pychologically important as well, jumping a couple of places? Continue reading “Back For More At London Road”

Posh Need Points At London Road

CHRIS MANN: Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson says he may make one or two changes to his team for the match against Huddersfield. The Posh lost 0-1 at Watford on Saturday, but have an immediate chance to bounce back when the Terriers come to London Road tomorrow evening. One change that may be forced upon Fergie is replacing Tommy Rowe, who was subbed off at half-time against Watford with an ankle injury. (TAPE)
DARREN FERGUSON: Well he’s been in early this morning. It’s fifty fifty. He won’t train today. It will be a last minute thing, but we’ll know more tomorrow.
SAM EDWARDS: That’s quite a trick, isn’t it? Because he’s such a lynch-pin of that new formation, being at wing-back. Does that play on your mind with a change of shape then? Continue reading “Posh Need Points At London Road”

Fry Bombshell Leaves Posh In Turmoil

CHRIS MANN: A serious issue for the Posh, and that’s tonight Barry Fry says Darren Ferguson held talks with representatives of potential owners of Nottingham Forest over the summer. Fry says Ferguson held meetings about taking over at the City ground. “I found Darren had two meetings, and hadn’t told my Chairman.” he’s told BBC Radio Nottingham. Fry described discussions, which occurred after Ferguson comfortably kept Posh in the Championship last season, as unsettling for Posh, and argued the Club missed out on signings as a result. So, first of all, Adi, what do you make of that? Continue reading “Fry Bombshell Leaves Posh In Turmoil”

Slow Start to the Season for The Posh

18:08 Thursday 23rd August 2012
Drive BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

CHRIS MANN: Let’s talk football. Posh go into Saturday’s clash with Leeds having lost their first two League games of the season. At the moment they’re equal bottom of the table, with nil points. Fergie told our Sports Editor Nick Fairbairn there’s no need for anyone to panic. (TAPE)
DARREN FERGUSON: I think a lot of people think we’re down, we’re doomed. With 42 games, we’re two games in, everyone’s panicking. Some of the stuff I’ve heard today, certain media people, and all the rest of it. It’s bizarre really.
NICK FAIRBAIRN: What kind of stuff? Continue reading “Slow Start to the Season for The Posh”

Funny Old Game

ANDY GALL: Peterborough United started their new season with a bang blast night. It was a massive four nil win for the Posh against Southend United in the League Cup at home. .. And someone who can say he was there, Posh fan Nilesh Patel joins us. What about that then? What about that!
NILESH PATEL: Yes. A very encouraging performance last night. The youngsters played very well, Joe Newell at left back, Ntlhe played very well as well. Something to build on, going into Saturday’s seasonal opener.
ANDY GALL: Was there a good vibe to the place last night at London Road?
NILESH PATEL: I think there was. Yes. The performance was encouraging, which certainly lifted the crowd, and I think listening to those goals back again this morning, you can tell the third goal was something special from Joe Newell, because of the way the crowd reacted. Certainly a contender for goal of the season, early doors.
ANDY GALL: I was talking to Bob Burrows yesterday, and I said, prediction for the season. I know it’s a little tough, but where in the table do you think you’d see Peterborough United? And he said, well if we don’t get relegated this season (LAUGHS) then it will bode well for the future. What do you think?
NILESH PATEL: It’s going to be another very tough season. You look at our gates. The average gates over the course of the season are probably going to be one of the worse in the Division. We haven’t got the finances the other big boys have, The Birminghams of this world, and the Cardiffs, in the Championship. But we’ll fight, and the fans will certainly get behind the team. Leicester away, we’ll take over 1,000 fans there. We’ve got Milwall at home next Tuesday, which, even though it’s the first (Championship) game of the season at home, it’s just one of those games you’ve got to win. It’s a team that’s going to be in and around us at the bottom. They’re not one of the big boys in this Division. And Leeds as well, on the following Saturday. That’s just in the opening week.
ANDY GALL: Just briefly Nilesh, I just wanted to ask you with regard to gates, and you saying Peterborough’s gates could be some of the lowest of this season coming. Are you critical, or do you see hope in the way that the football club is trying to engage with the community?
NILESH PATEL: I certainly do have hope. The Club are doing their utmost to draw fans in. I just think it’s a bit of apathy that’s set in, into the city maybe, and and into the fans as well. But they’ll be back. We had 7,000 against Manchester United, albeit a third team that was there. So there are fans out there, and they will come out. If we start the season well, I can see gates building, and the four, five, six, seven, eight thousands that will be there, the hard core, they’ll certainly get behind the team. And it will work together hopefully, with the fans and the players will bounce off each other, and that will attract more fans.
ANDY GALL: Let’s hope so.

Hard Fi Festival Fiasco – Massive Inquiry Planned

08:18 Monday 9th July 2012
Peterborough Breakfast Show
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

PAUL STAINTON: Many of you contacted us about the Peterborough Festival, the Finale of which fell victim to the bad weather this weekend. Thousands of you expecting to see Hard Fi playing in Central Park. But disappointment after torrential downpours, when Vivacity decided to put a stop to the festivities. A small scale street theatre performance was held yesterday on Bridge Street. It was an unfortunate way to end what would have been a great event. Wonderful stuff booked in. And it looked like it was only going to get better on Saturday. Criticism of how Council officials communicated with each other and the public, the way Vivacity and Enterprise perhaps worked together with the Council in the run up to the Festival. We saw a bit of confusion all round, and we spoke to Cllr Yvonne Lowndes earlier, who said the show should have gone on, should have carried on.
YVONNE LOWNDES: They could have cordoned off the areas with a lot of the mud, and everything could have gone ahead. In hindsight, yesterday it was quite dry, and we could have had continued the Festival. And there are lots and lots of disappointed people. And I was talking to them. Some people yesterday came all the way from Lincoln, thinking they were going to see the orchestra last night. And of course they were very disappointed.
PAUL STAINTON: Well Deputy Leader of the Peterborough City Council Matthew Lee is here now. Morning Matthew.
MATTHEW LEE: Good morning.
PAUL STAINTON: Before I get into the weekend, can I take you back to the planning of this, last week, and the fact that .. this is how I read it last week .. there was an application to increase the capacity of Central Park to 15,000 at the last minute, which seemed like some sort of panic act by Enterprise. You, according to Cllr John Peach, knew nothing about this. And then at the last minute you slapped it down and said 5,000 would be enough. Have I read it right? Posh Ground Upgrade Stalled as Council Dithers

07:07 Monday 28th May 2012
Peterborough Breakfast Show
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

PAUL STAINTON: Let’s start at London Road, and see if we can find out when the ground improvements are going to be sorted out. The Moyes End Stand of course, as we well know, was to be demolished. It should have already started. It should have already been gone. But it isn’t. So what’s going on? Let’s speak to Paul Froggitt. He’s a board member for the Posh Supporters’ Trust. Morning Paul.
PAUL FROGGITT: Good morning to you Paul.
PAUL STAINTON: What’s going on?
PAUL FROGGITT: I wish I knew. And I hope, maybe by the end of today, you might be able to find out. All different stories, the story keeps changing and changing about when the work’s going to start. And nothing seems to be decided. I was a bit surprised by the comment that I just heard, which I didn’t know anything about before, that the Council have said that they’re negotiating with the Club. I don’t really see why negotiations with the Club are necessary. They’ve got to assess a tender and award a tender to the successful contractor.
PAUL STAINTON: Let’s just go back then. This was supposed to have happened already a couple of times, wasn’t it? The stand was supposed to have already been knocked down. Continue reading “Posh Ground Upgrade Stalled as Council Dithers”

Fletton Furnace Will Emit Nitrogen Dioxide

07:37 Thursday 8th September 2011

PAUL STAINTON: Plans to redevelop the Moy’s End of the London Road football stadium were approved this week, despite a number of councillors asking for the decision to be delayed. Residents had voiced concerns about the potential pollution that could be created by that big chimney that will be installed on the ground. But councillors voted in favour of the plans by 6 votes to 4. Councillor Nigel North chaired the meeting, and voted in favour. He joins us now. Morning Nigel.
NIGEL NORTH: Good morning.
PAUL STAINTON: So you dismissed all these concerns, and thought, well, we’ll go ahead anyway. Continue reading “Fletton Furnace Will Emit Nitrogen Dioxide”
