It’s a big advertising campaign to promote us, and it’s been launched in London. Posters are going to be displayed at Kings Cross Station for three months, and taxis will be branded with the Cathedral Square livery for a year. Peterborough City Council have agreed to pay £175,000 to refurbish the Woolworths Building in order to encourage TK-Maxx to lease the property from the private landlords some time next year.
As it becomes apparent that Council budget cuts are affecting those least able to cope, questions are being raised about why the councillors themselves and the top earners at the Council have not offered to accept any cuts to their income.

Peterborough News 25th October 2010

Following the loss of funding for the planned work on Stanground and Orton Longueville Schools, and a possible question mark over the funding on Ormiston Bushfield for which contracts have been signed, local representatives will meet Lord Hill, Parliamentary under-secretary of state for schools, to discuss the city’s requirements, and a possible way forward. Council may be required to put some money in. but Matthew Lee Deputy Leader says he is committed to delivering a decent school environment for pupils in the south of the city.
Hammerson have put in an application for a small extension to the Queensgate Shopping Centre. Opportunity Peterborough admit they have not delivered so well on their brief in the past, but promise to do better in the future to attract business to the city, and top-quality shops to Queensgate.
A representative cross section of local unions assembled in Laxton Square on Friday to express their concern at possible job loses arising from Government cuts.
