The Bigger Breakfast
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

PAUL STAINTON: Earlier we heard there are concerns over cuts to Children’s Services in the county, particularly when it comes to Children’s Centres. .. Back in May we spoke to parents in Peterborough, worried about cuts to Children’s Centres there, and sessions at a SureStart centre in Bretton were being cancelled. The organisation was asking for volunteers. Now we’ve been told that Copeland Children’s Centre in South Bretton in Peterborough was virtually shut all summer long, forcing parents to look elsewhere. Sarah Woodbine is one of those parents. .. Well, what did you do? Continue reading “Doors Closed After Spurgeons’ Takeover At Children’s Centre”

Stopping At Manea

Bigger Breakfast Show
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

PAUL STAINTON: As we’ve heard from lots and lots of people this morning, public transport in the Fens is a bit of a disaster really. What can we do? Fenland the worst place in the country. .. Earlier we spoke to Joe Williams, Policy Adviser from Sustrans. He explained how this league table was calculated. (TAPE)
JOE WILLIAMS: It’s looking at where there are increasing levels of poverty, where people are a long way from bus or train stations, and a long way from amenities. Plotting those things together, we see a quite stark picture emerging across the country, and I think some of the areas in your patch are particularly badly affected. (LIVE)
PAUL STAINTON: Well Councillor Kit Owen from Fenland District Council has been in talks with Network Rail recently, to improve rail services. Morning Kit.
KIT OWEN: Good morning Paul.
PAUL STAINTON: Is it going to happen?
KIT OWEN: Oh we hope so, in due course. We have a plan. We have a strategy. We haven’t got any money.
PAUL STAINTON: What’s the point then?
KIT OWEN: Network Rail … Continue reading “Stopping At Manea”

Andrew Lansley On Moving On

07:08 Friday 7th September 2012
The Bigger Breakfast
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

PAUL STAINTON: Let’s talk politics. When we started our all-new Bigger Breakfast on Monday, he was the Health Secretary. By the end of the week, Cambridgeshire MP and one of the big beasts of government, Andrew Lansley, had been removed from his job. It became the big news of the week, with some saying he should have gone a long time ago, others saying he should have stayed to see his controversial health reforms through. So it was a reflective Andrew Lansley I caught up with yesterday, in his first full-length BBC Local Radio interview. (TAPE) Andrew, first of all it’s my first chance to talk to you since the Government reshuffle. Are you still disappointed, or were you ever disappointed to be taken out of Health?
