CHRIS MANN: The new housing initiative known as K1 has been launched in Cambridge today, a scheme in which groups of people wanting new houses get involved in the project right from the very start at the planning stage, so they can help design and shape their new homes. Managing Cambridge K1 is Adam Broadway, the man to explain to us now how it will work, and who it’s for. Continue reading “K1 Co-Housing in Cambridge”

PAUL STAINTON: Peterborough-based travel company Thomas Cook could axe 1000 jobs in a radical restructuring. It’s after the banks threw it a £200 million lifeline. It sells more than 22 million holidays in the UK every year, but bookings have dropped, partly due to the unrest in popular destinations like Tunisia and Egypt. Let’s speak to MP for Peterborough Stewart Jackson, who’s with us this morning. Morning Stewart.
STEWART JACKSON: Good morning Paul.
PAUL STAINTON: First of all I suppose we’ve got to say thank the Lord we can still not just book it, we can Thomas Cook it. That’s the good thing. Continue reading “Stewart Jackson MP on Thomas Cook”

PAUL STAINTON: Peterborough City Council’s Children’s Services has a new Director, looking after the department. It was confirmed yesterday a super-consultant is to be brought in to try and improve it, which  was criticised by Ofsted in September. Now one city councillor is questioning how truly successful consultants have been when tackling the same job in the past. Let’s speak to Cllr Mike Fletcher. Morning Mike.
MIKE FLETCHER: Good morning Paul. ..
PAUL STAINTON: Now how many consultants have had a go at Children’s Services in say the last three or four years? How many different companies have had a go at sorting it out. Continue reading “Peterborough Children’s Services in Crisis: Consultants Named”

ANDY BURROWS
: Our reporter Johnny Dee, let’s find out what he did today. Because it was all connected with the fact that the Energy Secretary Chris Huhne was in the news after telling the House of Commons he was hopeful energy bills would eventually come down, once people had taken advantage of all energy efficient measures available. Johnny Dee then went to Greenhart Grove Huntingdon, where the 29 flats and houses completed last year have been fitted with some of the most advanced environmental technology on the market. So has it meant reduced bills? Continue reading “Greenhart Grove Huntingdon – An Ecological Success Story”

PAUL STAINTON: No council employee is worth £1000 a day. That’s according to the Deputy Leader of the Independent councillors on Peterborough City Council. John Fox’s comments came after plans were unveiled to pay the new Interim Director of Peterborough’s Children’s Services over £1000 a day. He’s been billed as the new “super consultant”, and will be in charge of sorting out the Council’s failing Children’s Services, which was labelled so bad by an Ofsted report that the Director of the Department John Richards was forced to resign. What is Fog?

ANDY BURROWS: I got into work around about eleven o’clock this morning and it was really thick on the A14 and the A1. It got better as I got towards Cambridge, but it was pretty horrible, that’s for sure. Now I’m rather intrigued about fog. I don’t know if anybody else is, but let’s speak to Liz Bentley, who’s the Head of the Weather Club. She’s on the line. Hello to you Liz.
LIZ BENTLEY: Hi. How are you?
ANDY BURROWS: I’m OK thank you very much. It never really lifted where I live yesterday. And then I went outside round about eight nine o’clock last night and it had gone. And I was thinking, that’s weird, isn’t it? You’d think it would get thicker at night-time. Continue reading “What is Fog?”

Richard Howitt MEP on the Robin Hood Tax

17:21 Friday 18th November 2011
Drive BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

CHRIS MANN: David Cameron insists Britain and Germany are still good friends, despite their differences over the crisis in the Eurozone. The Prime Minister’s been meeting Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, where the two leaders failed to agree on the best way of funding the bail-out of debt-plagued European countries. Germany also wants to impose a tax on share and currency trading across the European Union, but this is opposed by Britain. So, summit or showdown? Richard Howitt is the Labour Euro MP for the East of England, and earlier I put it to him that either way, it’s a big mess. Continue reading “Richard Howitt MEP on the Robin Hood Tax”
