Mayor Keith Sharp has promised to get a new war memorial in Cathedral Square Peterborough by 2012.
Local Enterprise Partnerships have been given the go-ahead by Government, replacing EEDA locally. Opinions are divided on whether Cambridge and Peterborough have enough in common to make the idea a success.

Peterborough News 28th October 2010

The Site Allocation Document for Peterborough has had its final discussion and will now go to Full Cabinet in December. Eye residents say they want no further housebuilding as services are oversubscribed. Some question why massive development plans are concentrated to the South and East of the city. Cllr. Charles Swift points out that there are 1500 acres available near Castor.
Voices are joined in condemning the state of the Lincoln Road Triangle area, with the dumping of asbestos, crime, reckless driving and prostitution being the main areas of complaint. Council are taking too long to deal with the issues as they arise.
Eastern Angles are touring a play called Lincoln Road, which aims to celebrate the diversity of the area.

Neglecting the Built Environment

Properties in Ravensthorpe are being abandoned and attracting vandalism. Council say they are prevented from dealing with the problem due to legal constraints. Some properties are reported as being empty and boarded up for ten years. Locals feel the problem is becoming a blight on the estate.

Peterborough News 27th October 2010

Shailesh Vara MP Cllr John Holdich and the two headteachers concerned travelled to London to lobby for improvement work to Stanground and Orton Longueville Schools. They were told there could be some general funding made available to the Council towards the end of the year, and it would be up to Council how they choose to spend it.
A co-operation between Vivaicity and the Cresset owners means that Cresset Theatre will combine their booking function with Key Theatre to save cash and guarantee the future of the Bretton venue. Note: Panto starts 9th December Jack and the Beanstalk.
A councillor reports a problem in Ravensthorpe caused by private landlords leaving houses empty, leading to dereliction and vandalism. Council are effectively dragging their heels on the problem, citing regulations preventing them taking swift action to improve the situation.

Peterborough News 25th October 2010

Following the loss of funding for the planned work on Stanground and Orton Longueville Schools, and a possible question mark over the funding on Ormiston Bushfield for which contracts have been signed, local representatives will meet Lord Hill, Parliamentary under-secretary of state for schools, to discuss the city’s requirements, and a possible way forward. Council may be required to put some money in. but Matthew Lee Deputy Leader says he is committed to delivering a decent school environment for pupils in the south of the city.
Hammerson have put in an application for a small extension to the Queensgate Shopping Centre. Opportunity Peterborough admit they have not delivered so well on their brief in the past, but promise to do better in the future to attract business to the city, and top-quality shops to Queensgate.
A representative cross section of local unions assembled in Laxton Square on Friday to express their concern at possible job loses arising from Government cuts.
